"I like to think of these animals- be they furred , feathered or fishy painted on complimentary shaped wood as "art outside of the box" - in other words "a proper painting" or work of art BUT not confined in the usual way to a traditional square or rectangle of paper or canvas! As better befits creatures both wild and enchanted-Sylvan Hare Art does not like to be "caged" in a frame! Instead I`m as much  inspired as you by the sense that at any moment these paintings may spring to life and take flight round the room or go just get up and go scampering off! All that said - in this gallery, you will find the odd painting starring some gorgeous creature that is actually painted within a regular shape lol!

   I hand cut and finish these fey creatures from  Birch wood, then paint each and every one with as much time, love and attention to detail as my large painted canvases. The story of how they arrived in my life is in my Blog but I love to create them, and have been inspired to do so for eight years now, however I won`t ever create very many of these at any time and only bring some to life when I have time between commissions for paintings and my sculptures of faery people.  My Facebook Page Sylvan Hare Arts and Etsy shop are the best places to stay up to date with the "when" and the "what" is available but I do accept enquiries into the possibility of commissioning an animal from the collection you see here or something altogether new.
